My experience teaching piano began 25 years ago.  Over the years I have had the opportunity to work with students of all ages and levels.  The center of my teaching activities has always been one-on-one private instruction.  However, within that time I also gained extensive experience teaching at the college level, (I was employed as an adjunct professor at University of the Pacific, teaching close to a full load of classes for several years), as well as at the level of early childhood music education, (I have several years experience leading Music Together classes).  In addition, I have worked extensively with middle and high school aged children in group settings.

The experiences collected over this time have provided me with the material to lead almost any student interested in the piano toward a place of enjoyment and accomplishment.  Key to this process is trying to understand the wide variety of different needs, goals, and commitment levels of my piano students.

Currently, I am a member of the Music Teachers’ Association of California and the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and offer evaluations in piano from both organizations according to students’ individual needs.  For the majority of my students, the focus of our work together is European Traditions, the musical styles of the Western World over the last four-hundred years.  For students that are more inspired by contemporary music styles, I offer an alternate method based around keyboard theory and aural learning.
